How to Add Medication to the Current Medication List

Overview 

This knowledge base article guides you on how to add medications to the current medication list. 

 

 

Add Medication to Current Medication List When Prescribing 

When prescribing a medication for the client, you can add it to the client's current medication list. 

 

To add medication to the current medication list, access any note that allows you to prescribe a medication. Let's take an example of Progress Note.

 

In the Medication section, click the Enter button.

 

 

 

 

The Medication List tab appears as shown below. Click the Manage Medications button.

 

 

 

The Manage Medication List tab appears as shown below. Click the Prescribe New Drug button.

 

 

 

A list of various categories will appear as shown below. Select medication from the desired category. In this example, select the Betapace medication from the list.

 

 

 

The following screen appears to select the drug details.

 

 

 

In the following screen, select the desired format for the medication.

 

 

 

The Prescription Preview screen appears as shown below. Click the Save Only button.

 

 

 

Select the Medication List tab.

 

You can locate the medication in the client's current medication list as highlighted in the screen below:

 

 

 

 

Alternate Way to Add Medication to Current Medication List 

There is an alternate way you can add a medication to the current medication list.

 

On the Manage Medication List tab, click the Prescribe New Drug button as shown below:

 

 

 

A list of various categories will appear. Select medication from the desired category. In this example, select the Betapace medication from the list.

 

 

When you select the medication from the list, the Drug Details screen will appear as shown below.

 

Click the Set Current Medication button.

 

 

 

On clicking the Set Current Medication button, you will see the two options:

 

  • Set Current with Drug Name Only
  • Set Current with Detail

 

 

 

When you select the desired option, the next screen will allow you to select the expiration date for the medication.

 

Chronic: When you select this checkbox, the Expiration Date field will become disabled. 

 

Expiration Date: Select the expiration date for the medication using the calendar option.

 

 

 

In the Detail panel, you can enter the name of the prescriber (outside physician) who prescribed this medication. This is the prescriber who may not be from your practice. Enter the remarks if any.

 

 

When you add the medication, it will appear in the Medication List tab as shown below:

 

 

 

 

 

Discontinue Medication 

The medication crosses the expiration date becomes discontinued automatically and appears with the Discontinued status in the system. However, you can discontinue the medication manually as well.

 

Note: The discontinued medications will stop appearing on future notes. 

 

To discontinue the medication, click on the medication status within the Manage Medication List tab as shown in the screen below: 

 

 

 

When you click on the status, the following screen will appear to change the status. Select Discontinued from the options.

 

 

It is mandatory to enter the reason for discontinuing the medication. Enter the reason in the Comment field and click Save.

 

Note: You can set an alert when the same medication is prescribed again. Select the alert as per your need.

 

 

 

Once the medication is discontinued, it appears with the Discontinued status as shown in the screen below:

 

 

 

The discontinued medication will appear with the Discontinued status in the Medication List tab as shown below:

 

 

 

The discontinued medication will appear with the Discontinued status on the compiled note as shown below:

 

 

 

Bold vs Unbold Medications on the Compiled Notes 

When compiling notes, medications may appear in either bold or unbold fonts. Medications are shown in bold if they are prescribed in the current note. In future notes, they will appear in unbold fonts.

 

Medications prescribed in the current note appear in bold in the screen below:

 

 

 

Medications are unbold when accessed in the future note:

 

Note: In the above screenshot, the medication "Accupril" does not appear as it has already been discontinued in the previous note.
