E-Prescribing in ICANotes+

E-Prescribing in ICANotes+

Overview

E-Prescribing (eRx) in ICANotes+ allows providers to electronically prescribe medications, manage medication lists, and process refill requests. This guide outlines the setup process and key functionalities.

Notes
The owner must have a prescribing clinician subscription plan, or another active user must have one. See ICANotes+ Pricing Information.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility for E-Prescribing

Only users with the correct subscription plan can access eRx. The following plans allow e-prescribing:

Full-Time Prescribing Plan
Part-Time Prescribing Plan
Support eRx (requires an active clinician with a prescribing plan)
eRx Administrator (for administrative support)

NotesThe Support eRx and eRx Administrator roles should not be assigned to Full-time or Part-time Prescribers or Non-prescribers.
These roles are intended only for users with the following subscriptions: Staff, Case Manager, Intern, or Paraprofessional.

To modify roles or subscriptions:

  1. Go to Settings > Account Management.
  2. Click Edit next to the user's name to update their role.
  3. If the user is not yet added, click Invite User to send an account invitation.

Step 2: Set Up E-Prescribing for a Provider

  1. The practice owner or an existing prescribing clinician must initiate the setup.
  2. Follow the Provider eRx setup instructions.

Step 3: Set Up E-Prescribing for a Staff User

  1. Ensure a prescribing clinician is already set up in the system.
  2. Follow the Staff eRx setup instructions.

Step 4: Key E-Prescribing Features

Once set up, users can:
Prescribe medications (both standard and controlled substances – DEA # required).
View medication history from the SureScripts network.
Receive & process refill requests and medication change requests.
Discontinue, archive, or cancel medications.
Manage allergies & drug interactions with warning alerts.
Access PDMP (Prescription Drug Monitoring Program) via Bamboo Health.
