Group Rule: Only Discharge Rx in Summary

When the Group RuleOnly Discharge Rx in Summary” is enabled for your account, any standard medications checked for Discharge will be present in the medications field in the Final Exam Summary with. This guide will show you the difference when the rule is not enabled, versus when it is.

To mark a medication for Discharge, go to the medication entry within a Progress Note/Nursing Note/Complete Exam and check the Discharge checkbox. In the example below, the patient has three active orders (Ambien, Adderall XR, and Probiotics). Only Ambien and Adderall XR are marked as Discharge, while Probiotics is not marked as Discharge.

Whether you have the rule enabled or not, your note will show which medications were marked for Discharge Only (Ambien and Adderall XR)

From the Compiled Note screen, click Create Discharge Summary to launch a new Discharge Note.

For medications marked for Discharge, you can see that when the rule is not enabled, all three medications (two of which were marked for Discharge) are present on the Final Exam Summary (first tab) of the Discharge. However, when the group rule is enabled, only the two medications marked for Discharge (Ambien and Adderall XR) are included in the Discharge. The order not marked for Discharge, Probiotics, is not included as part of the Discharge Summary when the rule is enabled.

As well as in Discharge Status & Instructions (second tab)

This rule also adds a new button, “Duplicate Rx List for Discharge Only” on the Medication Entry that will only appear for MAR-enabled patients. This button will duplicate the list of medications, giving each copy a direction of “start” and marking the “Discharge” checkbox.

If a medication is repeated on the next line (such as in the case of a medication taper) then only the final dosage will be duplicated. Users should be cognizant about carefully reviewing the duplicates and making any necessary adjustments such as Stop or Blank out undesired lines.

After clicking to create a duplicate RX List the user will be presented with the following prompt to confirm:
