We have introduced a new Quick eRx feature to give prescribing clinicians a faster way to e-prescribe within DrFirst. New buttons added to the Chart Room, Chart Face, and DrFirst, when clicked, will take users directly to the chosen patient's e-prescribing screen, bypassing the initial process of creating a prescribing note first. Medications prescribed via the Quick eRx method can later be downloaded to the patient's record by creating a new prescriber note or, failing that, synced to a Clinical Note Without Encounter via the iPrescribe e-Rx Pending Note Creation Report. This Knowledge Base article will take you through the steps for utilizing the new Quick eRx feature from both the Chart Room and patient Chart Face, as well as instructions for documenting the medication(s) to the record via a Clinical Note Without Encounter.
Security Administrators should please reach out to ICANotes Customer Support for information on how to enable the iPrescribe group rule in order to access this feature (contact information is included at the conclusion of this guide).
Click Quick eRx to get started
Search for the patient
You will briefly see the selected patient’s Chart Face before the system automatically transfers you to the DrFirst e-prescribing module. Then, create the prescription.
When finished, you’ll have the following options: Back to ICANotes
Clicking the Back to ICANotes option will return you to the selected patient’s Chart Face.
Next, you have a couple options for syncing the prescription created via Quick eRx to the patient’s record.
From the Chart Room, click the New iPrescribe eRx
In the iPrescribe e-Rx Pending Note Creation Report, set your filters and click the Refresh button to view results.
Select a patient name from the search results. If you don’t see your patient yet, check at the bottom left-corner of the report to see when the last e-Rx download was. You may need to wait upwards of 15-20 minutes to see the medications sync up.
The medications pending documentation in a note will appear on the right side of the ICANotes screen, with options to Create a Clinical Note Without Encounter to Record the New E-Rx(s), and Create a Clinical Note Without Encounter and Compile/Sign it to Record the new E-Rx(s).
Choosing the option to Create a Clinical Note Without Encounter to Record the New E-Rx(s) will create an unfinished Clinical Note Without Encounter note behind the scenes. If you have other patients with pending medications to document via the report, you may do so. When ready, navigate to the patient’s Chart Face and click into the Work Areas of the unfinished note.
Enter additional details into the note, if necessary, including a service code and diagnosis. To finish, click Compile this Note.
The medication is now documented within the patient’s record. If you instead chose the option to Create a Clinical Note Without Encounter and Compile/Sign it to Record the new E-Rx(s), the note will be created and compiled for you.
Alternatively, once medications from DrFirst have synced, you’ll see an indicator of the medication pending documentation next to the Current Medications box on the left side of the patient’s Chart Face. Continue reading to see this process outlined in the next section.
