How to Create a Practice Diagnosis Short List
Overview
You can configure and record diagnosis codes (ICD-10) in different ways while creating notes.
- Narrow down from the alphabetical list.
- Type the ICD-10 code or description and select it from the populated list.
- Use the ICD-10 Shortlist tab, which displays only the configured ICD-10 codes.
This article explains how to configure the ICD-10 shortlist and use it when recording codes.
You can configure the shortlist in two ways:

Navigate to Settings > Practice Settings > Diagnosis Short List.

Click Add to List.
The following screen opens:

Configure diagnosis codes in three steps:
STEP 1 - MAJOR GROUP CATEGORY: Select a major group category from the dropdown, for example: A00–B99, C01–D49, D50–D89.

STEP 2 - NARROW SCOPE: Narrow the scope by selecting a subcategory from the dropdown.
STEP 3 - SELECT DIAGNOSIS: Select the diagnosis code from the narrowed list.

Click Add.
Alternate method:

In the Short Description field, start typing the code or description.

Select the ICD-10 code from the populated list.

Click Add.
Deleting Diagnosis Codes
You can remove diagnosis codes from your short code list. To delete a code, click the Delete icon on the far right side of the code entry.

Step 2: Use the ICD-10 Shortlist

Open a client’s chart.

Create a note and go to the Diagnosis page.
Select the ICD-10 Shortlist tab.

After recording the diagnosis codes, select Done.
Step 3: Use Additional ICD-10 Recording Options
You can also record ICD-10 codes without using the shortlist.

Open a client’s chart.
Create a note and go to the Diagnosis page.
Select the ICD-10 tab.

Select the ICD-10 by Code tab.
